Character costumes

This is Kerry Palmer, she is the actress that played the Femme Fatale in our production (My sister)(age 20) we wanted her to fit the conventions of a stereotypical Femme fatale so we wanted to portray her as a very sophisticated as well as sexy women, with lots of money and superior characteristics. In order to connote these characteristics I made her wear a sophisticated black antique dress which corresponds to the stereotypical old fashioned Femme fatale, I also had her wear very grand but sparkly jewellery to Porty her as having lots of money, a shawl and a fascinator, the shawl worn over the shoulders emphasizes her grand posture which is stereotypical of many grand women that wear shawls this also breaks up the dominate colour of the black dress and makes her visible in the darkness of the night, this is also true for the fascinator. Overall I think That our Femme fatale look the part and gave off the connotations we wanted.

This is Paul Palmer he was the actor that played the victim in our OTS, there are many different easy ways we could have made him look inferior by places him in ragged clothes and made him look overall scruffy giving off the sense of his struggle for money and a carrier. But we didn't want him to just be a victim off the street because we wanted to portray him as a successful business man who had become chainbound by his arrogance and need for money. This is why we made him wear a suit jacket with a white shirt underneath and jeans because this would then connote his business like nature but keeps the audience guessing due to the absence of a tie and black trousers which stereotypical white collar workers wear, and this ambiguity makes the character seem all the more intriguing creating multiple enigmas within the audience.

This is David Knights and he played the role of the Goon/hitman. The goon works for the Femme Fatale and sees to her every demand he protects her and carries out her dirty deeds making within the crime syndicate she runs. We wanted to distinguish the difference between the victim and the goon because the majority of the OTS is the chase between them. We did this by researching stereotypical goons and hitman and making him wear the types of clothes that would portray him as rough and strong overall the superior character making him someone to be feared and we did this by making him wear jeans, a leather jacket and big boots. The leather jacket enforces his rough and mean persona and the use of the jeans with big boots also helped to enforce his dominate figure and portray him as a man you wouldn't want to cross.

Overall I think that our characters fit the bill and they were each carefully analysed to see if they would give off the right connotations we were looking for and this was achieved to a good standard giving the resources that we had and a total of no-budget.

i always enjoy the chance to review ur work Tom. The reviews of costume/actor and how they fit in with both ur plan and the generic conventions of Film Noire/femme fatale stereotypes is the kind of detail that evidences ur attention to quality and content. It is the attention to detail that the top marks requires.
    well done
