A 3D experience

3D films are becoming more and more popular with the release of 10 3D films this year contributing to the increase in admission figures.
3D (three dimensional)in the context of film is a motion picture that provides the illusion of depth perception. This is achieved by a special motion picture camera that is used to record the images as seen from two perspectives and special projection hardware and/or eye wear are used to provide the illusion of depth when viewing the film.
3-D films were first introduced in 1890, but were quickly relegated due to the costly hardware and processes required to produce and display a 3-D film. Nevertheless, 3-D films made a return in the 1950s and 1980s in American cinema, and are currently experiencing a worldwide resurgence coinciding with the development of digital media and the introduction of high-definition video standards.
Not only are 3D films becoming more popular Many TV manufactures and TV broadcasting companies such as SKY and Virgin media have been working on new 3D technology and SONY have released a range of new Bravia TVs with Full HD and 3D technology. Sky Sports made television history by becoming the first in the world to broadcast a football match in 3D, only a selection of fans got to appreciate this event as nine secretly selected pubs were fitted with 3D ready TVs.
The 3-1 match between Manchester united and Arsenal on the 31st of January 2010 serves as a taster to what SKY hopes to launch in April, they intend to deliver 1 premiership match a week in 3D with no extra cost providing you have a 3D ready TV.

All this new 3D technology in my view is going to swamp to market in 2010 as data in my UK box office admissions post provides evidence of a mass market interest in 3D films and with the introduction of 3D TV in our homes I think this niche in the market will acquire Billions of people jumping on the 3D bandwagon.
