Film noir acquired its own genre of film by being significantly different and unusual to conventional films. The dark and gloomy lighting gave this genre individuality as well as the the cynical villains and heroes such as the femme fatale and the disillusioned victims that got caught up in crime and were unable to escape. The camera technique follows the dark convention, using the darkness of the night to then juxtapose with lighting from lanterns and car headlights, creating silhouettes and shadows which consequently contribute to the mood of entrapment and fatalism. The eccentric camera angles and action accents to the tension that always builds within a film noir.
When making our OTS we need to bare in mind the conventions of a film noir and intertwine these within our production, we need to constantly think about
Mise-en-scene, Sound, lighting, camera techniques, editing and costume because these are all the basic structure of any film but each individual genre will have its own differences.
We have many ideas that include dark and dingy locations with subtle lighting that give off shadows and create the sense of entrapment. We have researched costume which will help us when dressing our actors so that they fit the continuity of a film noir and give off the right connotations that we want them to, we have researched sound and we will create a sound track that will create tension within the audience, the camera angles we use will also have a purpose to show different facial expressions or to establish different locations or feelings and lastly the editing techniques will be very realistic and we are including a transition in time within our film so a white flash is going to be used to distinguish the difference in time.
Consequently we have found and researched conventional film noir's and will be creating our own with all this acquired knowledge in mind.
